News from the Superintendent
March 2026
In my opinion, March comes and goes like a lion in schools. It is a time of great effort in classrooms and the culmination of many student activities and competitions. Over the past month, LJC6 students have been on fire, demonstrating that hard work and dedication pay off.
Three LJHS students placed at the District Speech Competition. Izabel Combs is the District Champion in Dramatic Interpretation and will advance to state. Emily Jack placed fourth in Informative Speech and is also headed to state. Hayden Cunliffe placed fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Our Academic Team (Scholar Bowl) captured the I-70 Conference Championship. Hayden Cunliffe earned All-Conference honors and placed fourth overall, while Parker Nichol was All-Conference and finished first overall. In FFA, Mylee Joiner, Mavrick Trammell, and Ryan Kindall each earned their FFA Degrees.
The LJHS Wrestling Team had 12 athletes qualify for the state tournament. Lily McCleary became a two-time state champion, winning her match by pin. She also captured her MOKS freestyle event title, defeating the Kansas state champion. Barrett White and Ty White each earned fourth place in their respective weight classes.
Our Lady Mules Basketball Team made the Final Four State Tournament for the second year in a row. Ryley Shull and Lauren Roth also surpassed the 1,000-point career scoring mark this season.
While these accomplishments spotlight talented students, they also remind us of something equally important: success is never the work of one person alone. Behind every achievement is a network of support that begins at home and extends throughout the community. Parents and families spend countless hours driving to practices, helping with homework, attending events, and supporting their children through wins and losses. Their belief builds confidence and resilience.
The Lone Jack community also plays a vital role. From friends and family to booster clubs, volunteers, local businesses, and supporters in the stands, the encouragement our students receive is powerful. Lone Jack truly shows up, and that support tells our students their efforts matter and their town is proud of them.
March is also a time to recognize School Board Appreciation Month and thank the LJC6 Board of Education. Board members provide thoughtful leadership and dedicate many volunteer hours to ensuring our students have strong opportunities for success.
Community members will have the opportunity to elect new board members on April 7. A Board Candidate Forum will be held March 23, sponsored by our PTA, allowing voters to learn about the five candidates seeking to serve LJC6.
As we approach Spring Break, we know the remainder of the year will move quickly. When students return, we will enter our final stretch—just a few weeks filled with learning, activities, performances, and celebrations. The LJC6 team is focused and energized to finish the year strong
